A'Legends Boss Jenelle Alexia records Chart-success with 2nd Book, "Keira Discovers Her Talent" Jenelle Alexia

You started as a fashion designer and transitioned into an award-winning author. What inspired you to write Keira Discovers Her Talent, and how did your creative background influence your approach to children’s literature?

“Honestly, I’ve always been a writer and artist. Growing up, I loved everything about the arts, from fashion and music to creative writing and dance. Literature was just a natural extension of that creativity. Keira Discovers Her Talent was deeply personal, reflecting my own journey—navigating self-doubt, embracing my roots in Jamaica, and searching for identity. Initially, I envisioned creating children’s clothing under my successful A’Legends brand, but I wanted deeper impact. Storytelling became my vehicle, and Keira became my voice.”

Your latest book Keira and Jaime Discover a Musical Dream finally released this year. What was the process like bringing that story to life, especially after the delay?

“This book was born from personal warfare. The delays weren’t about production—they stemmed from intense personal struggles, betrayals, and financial hardships primarily caused by my son’s father. Despite the chaos, I transformed pain into power. Every page of Musical Dream carries the depth of my experiences, turning adversity into triumph. It wasn’t just a release; it was a spiritual victory.”

You recently completed a major literacy and cultural empowerment tour across Jamaica. What was the most impactful moment during that journey, and how has it shaped your vision moving forward?

“Walking into Jamaican schools and seeing children already chanting ‘A’Legends!’ before introductions was profoundly moving. It signaled a movement, not just a tour. Realizing the connection my characters have with these children inspired me to think bigger. This journey isn’t limited to Jamaica—it encompasses the entire Caribbean. My next book aims to deepen cultural pride and inclusion, emphasizing literacy and identity.”

Being introduced by Minister Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange on Read Across Jamaica Day was a big moment. How did it feel to be recognized at such a national level?

“That moment felt surreal, validating years of quiet battles and hard work. Minister Grange’s introduction wasn’t just recognition—it was a confirmation that purpose will always prevail. It reinforced the significance of my mission, affirming that my work is essential for Caribbean youth and their future.”

You were honored with the Diaspora Excellence Award by Rediscover Africa. How did it feel receiving that recognition in Atlantic City, and what does it mean for your cultural work globally?

“Although the official ceremony is set for September, knowing I’ve already earned the Diaspora Excellence Award means everything. This recognition honors my commitment to education, empowerment, and culture. It’s bigger than me—it’s a win for the Caribbean diaspora, women overcoming adversity, and the youth inspired by my story. Whether donating supplies or feeding communities during Thanksgiving, my actions speak louder than accolades. This award is a powerful acknowledgment of that impact.”

Between literature, fashion, music, and film, you’ve built a true multidisciplinary career. What keeps you grounded while managing so many creative outlets?

“Purpose keeps me grounded. My son, the younger version of myself, and the legacy I’m building are my anchors. It’s not about chasing fame—it’s about impactful presence. Balancing everything isn’t easy, but alignment rooted in purpose prevents chaos. My aim isn’t just visibility, it’s effectiveness in every space I occupy.”

You mentioned plans to launch a curriculum in Jamaican schools and animate your Keira & Jaime series for YouTube Kids. Can you tell us more about those projects and the kind of impact you hope they’ll have?

“The curriculum blends cultural pride and literacy in an engaging, relatable way for grades 1 through 6. Animation for YouTube Kids increases accessibility, reaching children who might not pick up a book. These initiatives are designed to empower youth across the Caribbean and beyond, fostering pride, literacy, and identity.”

Your debut hit #4 on the Apple Books Kids Chart and has been a consistent Amazon bestseller. What advice would you offer to new authors looking to build a similar kind of momentum?

“Create intentionally. Write to serve, not just sell. My process emphasized meaningful illustrations and purposeful messages. Building momentum also demands strategic marketing and authentic self-advocacy. Your ‘why’ fuels public support, amplifying your ‘what.'”

You’ve also ventured into music, producing Bankx Riddim and reaching charts internationally. How do you see music playing a role in your broader mission of cultural storytelling?

“Music is universal storytelling. Through Bankx Riddim, I collaborated with artists I respect, bridging generational and cultural divides. Music amplifies my mission of unity, creativity, and cultural pride, making it integral to my broader vision.”

With the next book Keira and Jaime Discover a Cultural Journey on the way and A’Legends continuing to grow, what are you most looking forward to in this next chapter?

“I’m excited to dive deeper into culture, global influence, and legacy-building. Cultural Journey celebrates multiple Caribbean identities, fostering representation and unity. As A’Legends expands, I’m eager to enter new spaces—retail, media, and global partnerships—impacting more lives through storytelling, education, fashion, and faith.”
